HLS Streaming

Post by Duffy Moon » Thu Oct 03, 2019 4:23 pm

I'm attempting to stream BBC radio from the links on this page: http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/other.asp but Neutron just gets stuck on "loading". Can anyone offer any assistance, please? Thanks.

Does streaming of radio stations via such a link generally work for you ?

The links work e.g. in MPC. They don't seem to work when pasted into Neutron.

Please have a look at the following :

Hi!

The links you provided are referencing HTTP front-end of music players of those internet streaming services. It is done in order to hide the direct link to the audio stream so that user would be forced to use provided front-end only.

Neutron needs link to the audio stream or playlist of the stream to be able to play it (any other player will need it too). Here is example of such link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r2.asx

You could also try extracting links to the audio from podcast XMLs (support for podcasts in to-do):

For example if you view:
http://radiofrance-podcast.net/podcast09/rss_11701.xml

There are audio links:
<enclosure url="http://rf.proxycast.org/m/media/2960962 ... 3725-0.mp3" length="52040672" type="audio/mpeg"/>

You need to input as URL in Neutron://rf.proxycast.org/m/media/296096201420.mp3?c=culture&p=CULTURES+MONDE_11701&l3=20121126&l4=&media_url=http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.radiofrance-podcast.net%2Fpodcast09%2F11701-26.11.2012-ITEMA_20423725-0.mp3

Best regards,
Dmitry.

I paste in e.g. this link: http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/ma ... rvice.m3u8
Should that not work?

While those links do work, they are low bitrate and somewhat waste the capability of Neutron and my LG V30 DAC! I was really hoping to get the high bitrate streams working - especially of 6Music.

I suggest you write to the developer at neutronmp@gmail.com , perhaps he's got a list of valid high-quality-radio-links.

https://hifiwigwam.com/forum/topic/1271 ... -stations/
Somewhat lost in all the fuss about the BBC retiring its WMA internet radio streams is the fact that there are now high quality 320kbps streams for all BBC radio stations.
[...]
The new streams use the Apple developed HLS protocol, meaning you can listen to them simply by pasting the link into Safari. Another good way to listen to them is to use the VLC media player, which is available on pretty much any platform.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_Live_Streaming
HTTP Live Streaming (also known as HLS) is an HTTP-based adaptive bitrate streaming communications protocol implemented by Apple Inc. as part of its QuickTime, Safari, OS X, and iOS software.
So I guess what you really want is for Neutron to support streaming via HLS ( HTTP Live Streaming ). I could move this topic into the Development forum, if you would like to request this feature.

That is indeed what I would like.

Yes, good idea. Thank you.
