Galaxy S9 Plus sample rate switching bug with 2.12.0

Post by semtexxl » Fri Sep 06, 2019 9:16 am

Hi,

I have some really interesting problems using the latest v2.12.0 ap on my Samsung galaxy S9 plus smartphone with latest August security patch. The new version has problem with switching certain sample rates. Let me explain. Setting are the same as 2.11.1 version:

Audio Hardware:

Generic driver: ON - Hi-Res Codec (Direct PCM): ON
Custom Format: 24-bit Int( (or 32 bit it really doesn't matter)
Frequncy: 44100/4800/88200/96000/176400/192000
Mode: RAW
32-bit Output (IEEE 754): ON or OFF (again doesn't matter that much both are working)
Direct USB Access: ON or OFF (not affecting anything)
Oversampling: 0x
Follow Source Frequency: ON

The only available frequencies are 48 and 192KHz with the latest version. You can switch between them if you want. However, anything else including 44.1/96KHz or even DSD shows it being resampled incorrectly to 48KHz, You can tweak custom format anyway you want or any other setting in Audio Hardware. It simply won't help. Audio Hardware - Frequency also shows only two inputs 48/192. Only 48 and 192 are switched automatically on playback when Following Source Frequency is enabled.
Although, if you switch back to the previous version 2.11.1 or any other release prior to 2.12.0 the correct funcionality is back! Redbook audio shows 44.1Khz on output, higher res vinyl rips showing 96KHz, DSD played natively is outputting only NOISE AS IT SHOULD because it doesn't support native DSD only DoP. When you activate conversion to PCM it shows 88.2KHz frequency. Screen from the older version are below:

16/44.1:

24/96KHz:

24/192KHz:

Thanks in advance for your help and answers. For now I'm staying with 2.11.1 version.

Try 2.12.1 :

2.12.1:
* Hi-Res output for HDMI/SPDIF.
* Mono is applied before DSP and Balance.
! Fixed:
- Custom Format ignored (regression in 2.12.0);
- crash during scanning (regression in 2.12.0);
- USB DAC can not resume playback if interrupted by a phone/voice call.

Thanks for the swift replies in both threads. I'm testing the new version right now and the sample switching bug regression is gone indeed. Everything is working as intented. I threw any thinkable sample rate possible on it and neutron is outputting the correct format. Finally input=output. Fantastic. I will be more careful with automatic updates next time. Many thanks for the quick fix in new version. I will continue to report any unexpected behaviour or suggestions for inproving the experience with neutron. :mrgreen:

Yes, sorry - Custom format was broken in 2.12.0 but since 2.12.1 will be working fine again.
