EQ presets

Post by Amarok » Fri Apr 10, 2020 5:40 am

Hi, I think I achieved emulation of Schiit Loki tone control device using the powerful Neutron MP equalizer flexibility, question is I am doing it correctly. It is working to my ears but I don't have the Shiit Loki device to compare.

So it is possible to include emulation other brands tone controls as equalizer presets ??

So you built an equalizer preset that emulates some hardware tone controls, as described in Schiit Audio Loki – Purists vs Pragmatists
Loki provides frequency adjustment points as follow:
+/-12dB at 20Hz and 8 kHz
+/-6dB at 400Hz and 2 kHz.

Yes, that would be possible. You'd have to find out the characteristics of the equalizer bands, that is their type, frequency and bandwidth

build an eqalizer preset and then this preset could be added to set of preinstalled presets. The question would be how to find out the characteristics of some obsure hardware. The loki manual isn't that forthcoming :
1 Bass Adjustment. (20Hz) Turning the knob clockwise increases bass, turning it counterclockwise decreases bass. Like all the adjustments on Loki, it has a gradual effect when first turned off of the center position, for subtle adjustments.
2 Midbass Adjustment. (400Hz) As before, clockwise increases, counter-clockwise decreases.
3 Midrange Adjustment. (2kHz) You’ve got the clockwise/counterclockwise thing now, right?
4 Treble Adjustment (8kHz). Clockwise = more, counterclockwise = less.
so you'd have to buy the device, feed pink noise through it and measure the output. Or find somebody who already own such a device and can perform this analysis.

So show us your loki-emulation-preset ! Something like the following ?

... but perhaps it would make more sense to build an equalizer that doesn't emulate some contingent hardware but instead think about what you want your equalizer to do. If you for example want an 4-band-equalizer that evenly covers the frequency range the following one might do :

If e.g. you give all 4 sliders a uniform increase of 6 dB each you'll get the following :

eq-2.PNG
eq-2.PNG (3.34 KiB) Viewed 3211 times
eq-3.PNG
eq-3.PNG (5.31 KiB) Viewed 3211 times
Meaning each of the sliders covers about 2.5 octaves.

Why Low shelf and high shelf you choose parameter S don't choose Q ; Peak EQ Can we use q instead of bw?
