Empty playlists

Post by jbb » Sun Oct 27, 2019 2:03 am

I bought this music player after searching far and wide for one that can read my m3u playlists. It was the most expensive of all the top rated apps, so I expected it to function properly. My m3u lists appeared when I manually directed neutron to their folder, but they all were empty. A forum search did not yield any results. No obvious contact email for support was available on the app or on Goggle (unlike Poweramp), and no instructions are available. Any suggestions?

Possible reasons that come into mind :
1. The "Playlists" feature isn't activated in Settings > User Interface > Optional Features. If that is so, enable it.
2. The directories where the playlists and the contents referenced therein are situated aren't included in one of the Sources. Invoke the track list, ascend to the top level, choose "Sources" - do you see the directories ? If not, add them. Neutron sees the music itself and you can play it directly ?
3. The Source needs to be refreshed. Long press (not merely tap) the source entry, then choose "Scan / Rescan music files"
4. The playlists are imported from outside neutron and their format isn't properly parsed. Could you provide an example, perhaps just list some lines from one of the empty lists ? To make sure that playlists generally work, you could create a new one in neutron and see what happens.

Thanks for the email and suggestions! I looked on their website, but didn't think of looking on the app site for the email.

I bought Neutron in order to be able to import my m3u files (from Itunes) - when my Poweramp app stopped working with my new Bluetooth audio in my new (used) car. Neutron plays fine other than the playlists.

The "Playlists" feature is activated in Settings > User Interface > Optional Feature. And I refreshed the playlist (in the refresh button next to the playlists. I'm not sure what #2 and #4 mean (the playlists are made in itunes and work in Poweramp) with blaubär's answer. Any suggestions?

2. Neutron needs to know where the music that you play resides. This is stored in the section "Sources". There you can add directories, streams etc and if necessary rescan them. You should make sure that both the directory where the playlists reside and the directory where the music is kept are included in the sources.

4. Neutron assumes a certain format when interpreting playlists. I don't know what format the iTunes playlists have. Perhaps there is an issue. To clear that up it might be helpful to have a look into one of the playlists that don't work.

I deleted the playlist source and added it again. Now I am able to see the playlists (this time with the correct number of songs listed on them instead of 0). But when I tap on any of the playlists, it goes to a blank page with no music playing.

I would think that Itunes m3u playlists have been fairly common since many people still use it? The plyalists work on Poweramp, which as mentioned for some reason plays with "static" on my new car BT player.

Hmm, i just tried playing the playlist on VLC (unsuccessfully) and I was able to screen save this image that shows that the "location" is the G drive on my PC. Maybe that's the problem? Nevertheless Poweramp was able to play this list (albeit with "static" ...in the car)

Two questions :

1. Can you play the songs if you don't use the imported playlists, what I mean is directly via folder or artist or album ?

2. Can you create a new playlist with Neutron and play the songs from there ?

Yes, I can play the songs alone, and they play when I make a new playlist within the playlist. BTW, are there ways to delete multiple playlists?
