M4A/AAC - Replay Gain?

Post by dramatikbeats » Sun Sep 23, 2012 3:35 pm

Hi guys, just trying out the evaluation version of Neutron and noticed that ReplayGain wasn't working with any of my M4A Tracks, also noticed that they only play at 16bits whilst all my MP3's play at 32bits. Is this normal? Cheers

Hi! :)

From next version AAC formats will be decoded into 32-bit samples. In general, even if decoder is decoding into 16-bits further processing of audio (if EQ is used or some other effects) inside Neutron audio engine is happening either in 32 or 64 bits.

ReplayGain tag is not documented by Apple specs and so far there wasn't success in decoding it from metadata. Would you please e-mail to neutronmp@gmail.com one music file with ReplayGain tag for analysis.

Ok thanks. I'll re-encode those files into MP3 since I highly doubt the amount of quality lost is something I can't live with. I shall send a file today, cheers

The Replay Gain support for M4A has been implemented yesterday. Unfortunately it won't be in the update which just came out (1.63.0) but will be in next one. I had one example of ALAC but if you could e-mail one of your files it would be great to double check implementation.
