Reading DSD256 files

Post by mer_du_sud » Tue Jan 10, 2017 4:57 pm

Hello. My configuration is the following : ASUS Zen Phone 2 + OTG Cable + Encore mDSD Dac. I have no problems to read DSD64 and DSD128 files, but i have when i want to read DSD256 Files. The sound jumps, advances by blows, etc. Is it a limitation of Neutron player or a matter of parameters ? Thank you fot thr answer.

iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 and RME ADI-2 Pro DAC - no problem with DSD256 and Neutron.

Just to add my own experience I have been able to play DSD 256 files on my system with Neutron so I'd suggest settings or hardware. The sheer size and power needed for DSD256 would strain the weakest link in your system wether it's your network, Wifi , phone processing power etc.

Thank you for your reply which is encouraging. I don't think this a problem of harware (wifi speed is 150 Mb/s; Zen phone has Intel® Atom™ Quad Core Z3580 (2.3GHz), 4 G Ram; audio files are located on a NAS (Mycloud) connected to the Internet Box thru Cat 7 cable), but who knows... So this is rather a problems of setting. So my question is : which settings ?

Best regards

Hello.
Despite the encouraging comments that have been made in this forum i was unable to find the soution. So, i turned to another software, USB AUDIO PLAYER PRO not to name it. And it works. DSD256 files are read perfectly in native DSD mode.

Hello. In fact, Neutron uses DoP mode and not Native DSD mode (let's suppose it will change in a future version). And Encore mDSD dac works in DoP mode only with DSD64 and DSD128 files, not with DSD256 files. It works with DSD256 only in Native DSD mode (which is the case with many DACS, not all, like, i suppose the ones mentionned by people who have no problems), which is useless with current verion of Neutron. So, i have to wait a future version of Neutron or change my DAC or use USB AUDIO PLAYER PRO (which uses both modes)... Topic is closed for me for the time being.

Good news. Since the last version, Neutron is capable to send DSD stream in Native mode, in particular DSD256 audio files ! So, i have no more problem with Encore mDSD dac which is capable to read DSD256 only in native DSD mode.
