Equaliser settings

Post by Stephanmanders » Thu Feb 05, 2015 7:39 pm

A question about the parametric equaliser. I'm trying to make a high-Q filter where the centre frequency is set to a low value (38Hz),intend to supress resonances with mysubwoofer. When I set the cutoff frequency to 38Hz with high Q and reduce the low-band gain there is more bass, frequencies other than 38Hz appear to be amplified. The lower the gain setting, the more amplification. Do more people have this experience, can anyone explain how the low-band equaliser works ?

Hi there
ImageThe image is how Q, slope attack to freq gain.
I draw the case gained +dB.
At hi Q, a valley will occur, and it is not happen to low Q(it will crown as green line).
So you set gained minus dB, the red circled section becomes a sharp mountain.

Thats why you heard ""some freq gained".
Hope it help.

P..S you can refer a excell file for more detail (my topic EQ sharing)

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the explanations. The excel file is very usefull and explains it all. The midband equaliser does exactly what I was looking for when the bandwidth is set to al low value. Unfortunately the lowest possible setting is 200Hz. Would be a great feature if the mid-band frequency range is extended to lower frequencies !

Dont use sliders but key-in values!
Neutron parameters are fully customisable
