Missing tracks / duplicate metadata
Missing tracks / duplicate metadata
I've discovered that when several tracks of an album have the same name, only the first one is added to the database, the other occurences are systematically ignored (and can't be played, of course).
I suspect that Neutron do this to remove eventual doubles, wrongly assuming that twice the same tags = twice the same track.
This screenshot shows a directory where tracks 5, 7 & 17, and tracks 9 & 21 have the same names, respectively. Neutron ignores tracks 7, 17 & 21. [Sorry, I can't add the third screenshot. ]

Re: Missing tracks
How do you define what constitutes an album in Settings > Media Library ?
The tracks that you show differ in the number with which they begin - is this number part of file name ? If so, the file names differ ? Question : what of these tracks DOESN'T differ ?
What metadata information do these tracks have ? Do they perhaps have the same "TITLE" tag ?
The screenshots that you showed of NMP, what view was that ? Artist > Album ?
How does look in the Folders view ?
My best guess : the tracks don't have the same name, that differs because of the number at the beginning, but they share the same title. And an album is defined by the tags, not the file names, so the tracks which share the same title occur only once in the album. When you look at the folder you might see all tracks.

Re: Missing tracks
I'm using the French interface. It's called "Distinction album/répertoire". Probably "Split album by directory (or folder)", in English.
The wiew comes from Musique > Par dossier.
The track number is a part of the file name.
They do have the same title tag. All the tags may be identical, except the track number.

Re: Missing tracks
I've retitled the tracks, adding (2), (3), behind the title tag, and now, all the titles appear in the database. Of course, this is not a viable solution when you have 4000 albums...
Re: Missing tracks
Ok, so if you don't have unique titles per album and won't or can't change the tags, then you'll have to play folders, not albums.
Do you have an appropriate folder structure ?
Re: Missing tracks
I do already play the albums per folder. This how my NAS is structured (generally: genre/artist/folder).
Re: Missing tracks
Oh, so the non-unique tags prevent the tracks from being shown in the folder view ... could you try to "replace metadata with filename", can be switched on in the "Setup" of "Folders"
Re: Missing tracks
OK, I've just done it. Now the problem is to know if it works... I'll revert the tracks titles to their initial formulation and keep you informed.
Re: Missing tracks
That depends on the tool you use. See https://www.online-tech-tips.com/free-s ... -metadata/
