[?] Neutron Freezes on returning to UI

I have been using Neutron for a long time and it has been great.
However recently it has developed a very annoying problem.
When Neutron is in the background (e.g. When listening to music while reading a book), when I return to the Neutron UI the sound stops and the UI freezes for what feels like about 20 to 30 seconds.
This only happens when Neutron has been in the background for a long time.
Does anyone else have this problem or know a workaround?

I mainly use a Nexus10 but I have seen the same thing on a Galaxy Tab 10.1.
I always stream music over WiFi from a NAS drive (3TB, Western Digital), which I suspect may have something to do with the problem.

Hi! May be NAS takes time to start-up if it was not used before the moment when you put Neutron back to front. Some NASes could take up to 20-30 seconds.

Yes that is true, the NAS drive will take a while to wake up, and Neutron has always taken 10 seconds or so to start.
This is something different.

Everything works fine, music is playing, i.e streaming, I am reading a book, but then suppose I want to jump a track or adjust volume :
I hit the 'launched apps' button, select Neutron from the list to return to it's UI and at that instant it freezes as described above.
But not always.

I have been looking for a reproducible sequence, one which always causes the problem, but I have not found one yet.

OS is Android 4.3 but this effect has occurred as the result of a Neutron update, the OS has not changed since September 2013.

After reading other posts I began to suspect the Sleep Timer.
I have never used it but it seems to have a default setting of 15 minutes.

I set this to Max. and then read a book for 30 mins with music playing.
When I returned to Neutron it did not freeze as described above for the first time in months. Result!

It's as if the Sleep Timer expires while Neutron is in the background but does not stop the music until the UI is activated.
