[TIP] All Neutron using Experience

Post by TYA » Mon Aug 12, 2013 11:58 am

These are my Exp of using neutronmp over years.

1. 64 bit mode have to be ON for sq.
2. Dither should be ON for analog sound feel.
It is a bit reduction of "sharpness" "clarity" in some tracks, but close to analog.
3. Sampling mode Audiophile, ofcourse.
4. Phase revert : ON for bass lover. OFF for clarity of Mid.
It tune bass and mid.
5. Crossfeed with high feed level (less effective) and Surround with low echo/decay and high feed level
For 5. On off as you like and depending on tracks, music type. Crossfeed change mid image and bass darker.
@Dmitry : pls allow users to key in value ( I need 20dB for feed level).
Manual key in is better.

Examples : surround with range 500-3000hz by decay/echo 3 Microseconds , feed level 13dB give charming vocals!
6. Normalization w/o Gain. You should unpick Gain check box when doing this operation.
Why ? For better dynamic level than choose. It does DC offset only
Warn : do NOT do this way for bad tracks! However, in this case, can manual reduce gain level by Playback gain control.
7. EQ
This is private, may not fit your ears.
Bass cutoff 200hz (pls Dmitry change it for defaul valure)
Bass Q factor 0.5 or 1 or 1.5
Gain : you choose!
Mid1 Center fr 1500 (human ear character) with Width 0.3 to 0.5 Octaves.
Gain : should be 2-3dB plus side
Mid2 Center fr 6000 or 9000. My hp fit to 9000hz with width 0.35 Octaves.
This mid2 should be ref. to your hp.
Gain : you choose!
Treble : 9000 to 12000hz cause of most of hp trouble w/ this range and above.
Q factor should be 0.01 -2.0 and you find your need.
Tip : excellent Q factor is 0.000 for treble. It acts specially when you slide Gain slider. Rich, clean, detail.
Gain : up to you

EQ can made by using key in , fir wider freq range each band.
8. Speed . Pitch...
I love speed factor 1.005 than 1.000 and feel more clarity for mid and trebles.

9. Output driver : Open SL give better sq than native . Go setting - hw audio - Generic driver....etc and tick on check box several times until seeing Drv : Open SL on the scr (upper area)

Have fun!

Ok, will relax settings to allow untypical wider range from next update.

Hi all.

Here are some charts come with Neutron when I do RMAA test.

Lets "look" at the sound , how does it respond to Q slope and Width octaves changing?

Detail :
Gain is no changed in this exam for each band, it is a plus value.
Changin is Q slope (bass&treble) and Width octaves (2 mids). We will estimates how FR curve runs at each Q, Width.
Bass and treble cut off are 200hz and 12khz respectively.

@Dmitry, can you help me to make these img appears directly?
Thank you in advance.

For latest current Neutron version :

You can use the action of Q slope factor to help in bass band.

I use a Hi pass filter combined with a Low shelf filter to make bass.
Hi pass filter : Freq=32 to 38 Hz at hi Q (Q=2.5 to 5)
Low shelf filter : Freq =160Hz at Q = 1

Hi pass, at hi Q makes a big slope (goes down from left to right) looking as a logarithm curve. At low Q it cut off low freq.
That behaviour bring a result : can use for bass band.
Will you try it ?
Have fun guys.

I will leave my feedback to this software. First of all it is versatile program and it seems that it can do most of things I need. But there are some deficiencies that I should mention:

* Scan DLNA sources

That is GREAT stupidity to scan directory with 100 000 files, I hate this crooked scanning technology! First, it was scanned on server side which is already bad. DLNA server must scan (non-deep) and cache directories on access. And then you scan it twice! What a non-sense! I understand that this fuss is about all this Artist-Album-Genre rubbish, but this is superfluous unneeded functionality. 50% of files don't contain metadata or it is written non-systematically.

* UI elements are not decreased proportionally to font decrease

There is no sense in decreasing font size, because it doesn't make more rows on screen!

* No A-B repeat?

A-B repeat is essential in language learning process!

* What Loop button does? Loop 1 or loop list?

There should be 3 states of loop button: Off, Loop 1, Loop list.

---
With this scanning algorithm I can only rate 3 of 5, because it spoils all the impression!

I am in dire need for help with the scanning of dlna devices because mine recets back to 0 every time and it only gets to about 3000 songs out of 13000 in my diretery and i like to put those on shuffle i have to keep hitting refresh after every 30 songs it scans stops have to refresh or scan again, adds more music never gets my full directory hve over 500 artist all 16-24 bit flacs and then i will close out of the app to open it up again and see 0 songs and artists in my directory to have to do it all over again or at least get to 300 songs and have it mess up i want to see my whole directory and have it remeber it for next time to know whitch spots on the drive to access since it would have already been scanned. I do not have the phone nor sd storage capacity to do that so i have to use dlna right now until sandisk or someone else makes a micro 512gb card i know microdia has one but come one are they ever going to release those good luck waiting on them better luck with other chip company.

HI Dmitry/TYA/All
I just got into neutron and thanks a huge lot to TYA for the extremely helpful info here.
But I am not getting the OPEN SL driverr option though tried a lot of times.

Also my paid version does not show me options on long press of songs for +EQ or to NORMALIZE.

Can you please help.

thanks
B

It tune bass and mid.
With "Phase revert" you mean Audio Hardware > Phase Inversion ?
I don't head any difference - why would it make any difference when both channels are simultaneously inverted ?

What is meant by "sq" ? sound quality ?
